Wet Processing Equipment

Eco Pulper (Disc Type)

The Eco Pulper is a type of pulping machine used in wet processing plants to turn ripe coffee cherry into parchment. The process begins with the ripe cherry being fed from fruit tanks through a cherry feeder and stone catcher arrangement, and the resulting wet parchment is discharged into fermentation tanks. One of the main advantages of the Eco Pulper is that it requires a minimum amount of water for pulping that can be filtered and recirculated for reuse.

The pulper is versatile and can be used for both Arabica and Robusta varieties. The number of discs used in the machine can be adjusted to match the desired capacity. The Eco Pulper can also be configured with either a rigid or flexible chop rail option, allowing for adjustments to the gap between the surface of the bulb and the chop rail as needed. The hopper is fitted with a feeding mechanism to ensure uniform feeding of the ripe coffee cherry to the disc surface.

After the pulping operation, a screw conveyor transports the skin from the pulper to the skin yard. Two pumps are also provided to recirculate the transport water to a syphon tank and the pulped water to the disc. The McKinnon Eco Pulper can be run with either an electric motor or diesel engine and can process up to 1000 kgs of ripe coffee cherry per hour per disc. Additionally, the Eco Pulper can be used in conjunction with other machines such as Aagaard pre-graders, rotary sieves, and shaking sieves to optimize the wet processing plant's efficiency.

Green Cherry Separator

The 'Green Cherry Separator' has been designed to segregate green coffee cherries from ripe cherry fruits.

Principle of Operation: Coffee fruit is fed onto a conveyor belt in the centre of the machine, which moves the fruits to the both ends of the machine. Ripe fruit is separated from the rest of the produce by a sieve that has a squeezing property, allowing it to fall onto a collection tray. The ripe fruit is then sent to the pulper. Any unripe or green cherries are collected separately and removed through a separate outlet. This straightforward process ensures that only the ripest fruit is used in the production of coffee.

Dry Destoner
With Fan and Cyclone

The Dry Destoner is designed to eliminate stones from dry parchment, dry cherries, or green coffee. Its design takes advantage of the difference in weight between the coffee and the stones.

When the coffee is fed into the machine, it goes through an inclined sifting frame that is equipped with a specialized screen exposed to controllable air exhaust. The good coffee forms a fluid layer above the sieve and flows over the outlet as a lighter fraction, while the heavier stones that come in contact with the screen move upwards due to frame vibration. The machine also includes an input feed regulation device and an aspiration throat that can be connected to a central/individual aspiration line along with a fan, cyclone, airlock, and piping. A butterfly control valve is used to adjust the vacuum above the sieve. To achieve optimum results, the feed, aspiration intensity, screen inclination, throw angle setting, and vibration amplitude can be adjusted based on the input material characteristics.

Depending on the input product characteristics, the Dry Destoners have a capacity that ranges from 600 kg/hour to 6000 kg/hour.

Closed Circuit Catador

The dustless Closed Circuit Catador is designed to separate heavy beans from light beans and to remove dust, shells, immature beans, stones, and external matter from green coffee. The operating speeds and air quantities can be adjusted to achieve this separation. These catadors are especially effective in removing discolored or insect-damaged beans, which are typically lighter than mature beans.

Due to their closed air circuit, these catadors operate in a dust-free environment, promoting a clean factory setting. They are used after hullers and smout peeler polishers to remove husk and light-weight beans as well as after grading for secondary catadoring of lighter beans and triage. The coffee beans are fed into an air current, and the separation is done through density differences, where the lighter beans are carried up and exit through a separate outlet while the heavy beans fall on a wire screen and exit through the front of the machine.

The machine comes equipped with an electric motor platform and shaft extension that can accommodate either an electric motor or diesel engine drive. The recommended capacity for the machine is 1000 kg/hour, with operating speeds that vary depending on the type of separation required.

Cylindrical Grader

Cylindrical Graders are used to grade coffee using a combination of wire and perforated screen sections. The machine's modular design allows for individual sections to be replaced, interchanged, or redesigned to suit the coffee type and desired grading amounts. The length of each modular section is determined by the type of coffee and the amount of each grade. The beans are passed along the cylinder by an internal spiral conveyor in a very uniform manner. Cleaning brushes ensure optimal screening at all times.

When peaberry separation is not required, all sections are made of perforated sheets. However, when peaberry separation is required, the grader is configured with alternate wire and perforated sheets. The grader includes an input hopper with a slide feed regulation device, individual outlet hoppers for each section, rails and hooks for bagging, and spouting for further transport.

Cylindrical Graders can accommodate both Arabica and Robusta varieties, with input capacities ranging from 200 kg/hour to 2000 kg/hour. These graders can be configured to provide up to nine separations and can include twin or triple decks for easy repass and coffee movement.

Densimetric Table (Gravity Table)

The Gravity Tables are utilized post the hulling and peeling/polishing stages to separate heavy and light coffee beans. These tables can be used in conjunction with Closed Circuit Catadors for optimal results, or as a standalone alternative. When well adjusted, the tables effectively remove all defective beans, resulting in uniformly weighted coffee.

To achieve the best possible outcomes, it is recommended to grade and catador the coffee before passing it through the Gravity Tables. These tables can be adjusted for lateral and vertical tilt and throw.

An efficient fan and air distribution system at the machine's bottom ensures an even air supply. An input hopper with a regulating device for feed control is provided, along with an optional dust hood and suitable piping to connect to an aspiration system (as an add-on accessory). Separate discharge spouts for broken beans, lights, and heavies are provided for bagging or further processing. Gravity Tables can be supplied with or without feed elevators. The coffee moves on an air cushion, and the machine's rocking motion and tilt cause the heavier particles to move to one side of the machine for discharge. The lighter coffee and brokens move further down the screen for discharge in front of the machine.

Input capacities range from 150 kg/hr to 3,000 kg/hr for green coffee input.

The belt is made of food-grade material, providing a clear color contrast with the beans for easy picking. Small pockets are available for the pickers to deposit the removed defective beans. The belt's speed can be adjusted by the garblers to obtain the best results. The table's length and breadth can be adjusted to meet the desired capacity requirements.

For optimal results, Sorting Tables should be used along with size graders, catadors, gravity tables, and electronic color sorters.
