Colmena Pump for Coffee

McKinnon Colmena Pump is a multipurpose non- clog type pump designed for use with water to raise coffee to a certain height and also to transport it horizontally.

McKinnon Colmena Pumps can be used for any or a combination of the following uses through suitable piping design:

  • Transport of fruit from collection and weighing yards to fruit tank prior to pulping.
  • Transport of pulped skins to filter tanks for water recovery and pulp disposal.
  • Transport of wet parchment from fermentation and soaking tanks to drying yards.

The ripe coffee cherry is fed from fruit tanks through cherry feeder and stone catcher arrangement and wet parchment is discharged in to fermentation tanks. The water is recovered and recirculated.

McKinnon Eco Pulpers can be used for Arabica and Robusta varieties. They are made with one, two, three and four discs according to the capacities required. The Eco Pulper can be configured with rigid or flexible chop rail option. The pulping operation takes place due to the rubbing actions between bulbs on the disc and the Chop rails. The gap between surface of the bulb and the chop rail can be adjusted to allow for any clearance that may be required according to the variety and size of ripe coffee cherry processed. The hopper is fitted with a feeding mechanism which ensures uniform feeding of the ripe coffee cherry to the disc surface.

McKinnon Eco Pulpers require minimum amount of water for pulping and the water can be recirculated for reuse after filtering of skins. The McKinnon “Green Cherry Separator” machine has been designed to Segregate Green cherry from Ripe cherry fruits at in-put.
Principle of Operation: Coffee fruit enters into the central conveyor which will move the coffee fruit left side and right side simultaneously. Aagaard Wet Processing System


McKinnon Aagaard Wet Processing System has been designed to produce a uniform quality of First Parchment and for total pulping of the intake ripe coffee cherry.

The system consists of the following equipments : Rotary Cherry Feeder to intake ripe coffee cherry from the fruit tank, a device to destone the ripe coffee cherry and to evenly spread the cherry. This feeding system is not dependent on water and hence less water is needed in the pulping process. A regulating door ensures that the feeding can be varied from 800 kgs to 4000 kgs per hour.

A Primary Disc Pulper can be Two, Three or Four Disc type depending on the capacities required. These pulpers are fitted with hoppers. The flexible Chop Rail option ensures that a wider range of cherry sizes is pulped with reduced nip damage. Sixteen nylon fingers, backed by a flat piece of rubber with a tension adjusting screw, ensure this flexibility.

Aagaard Pregrader, consisting of a wet sieving surface and a paddle elevator, ensures the separation of wet parchment into firsts, seconds and lights. The firsts are discharged into a separation chamber for paddle elevation to fermentation tanks while the seconds and lights are led to the Repasser Pulper. The Pregrader produces a first grade of well pulped and uniform size parchment, completely free from skins and helps grade the coffee for future dry processing. A Repasser Disc Pulper with either One or Two Disc type is used for pulping of light cherry from the Pregrader.

McKinnon Aagaard pulping system can be configured into modular units of capacities from 2000 kgs to 4000 kgs of cherry intake per hour and can be Motor or Diesel Engine driven.

Mucilage Remover - Horizontal Type

The McKinnon Mucilage Remover is designed to mechanically remove mucilage from the parchment. The mucilage is rubbed off when the parchment coffee travels through the specially designed cylinder and is expelled through a perforated steel cylinder casing. This casing is split into two halves, which can be hinged up or down for regular cleaning.

The machine contains the reception hopper with water arrangement, heavy duty cast iron cylinder, cast iron support legs, removable sheet metal cover, and an out-let control with weight adjusting levers and water piping.

Rotary Dryer


McKinnon Rotary dryers can be used for drying both cherry and parchment coffee which yields a uniformly dried products. It is available in different sizes / volumes from 1000 litres to 16000 litres. Even though the dryers are designed to dry coffee products, it can be used to dry other products like chicory and turmeric. (Subject to change of perforated screens according to the product)

The dryer consists of a drum which is mounted on two rigid frames, carries the product and rotates at a constant speed, a hot air blower and a hot air generator. The hot air generator generates heat using either fire wood or diesel depending upon the model opted by the customer.

It comes with an optional equipments : Silo with Elevator. Silo is used for storing the product and Elevator is used for loading the product into Silo.

9” Smout Peeler-Polisher


Sample peeling can be carried out using Smout Peeler-Polisher. It can be used to determine the yield of coffee bean from the Dry parchment (between 10.5% - 11.5% Moisture level) . This Peeler and polisher is capable of handling 10 – 15 kg of green coffee per hour. Cone and Liner are made with Cast iron material. Also amount of polish can be adjusted as required.

No.6 Africa Coffee Huller


Sample hulling of Dry Cherry can be carried out using this Huller, to determine the coffee bean yield. The capacity of this Huller is between 10-15 kg/hour of green coffee. Both manual and motorised versions of Huller are available.

Sampling Catador


This closed circuit catador is used for segregation of good beans from the bulk coffee beans. This segregation makes grading easier, faster, and more precise. The Sampling Catador also helps to determine the percentage of good beans, lights, broken beans, and shells present in the bulk coffee on a sampling basis. Its capacity ranges from 15 to 20 kgs/hour of green coffee.)

Mini lab Grader


The Mini Lab Grader is used for grading green coffee on five different sizes, by means of sieves. The machine is provided with a linearly vibrating motor, and sieves made of perforated sheets. This machine handles 1 to 20 kgs/hour of green coffee.

The sieves are used to analyse various grades in a sample of coffee beans. These sieves are available in sizes conforming to both Indian Coffee Board, and International Standards (Screen Nos. 10 to 20). The sieves are built with a tolerance of +/- 0.05 mm. to maintain a high level of accuracy in grading.)

Pre cleaner with aspiration channel and magnet


McKinnon coffee pre cleaners are designed to clean and screen the coffee, effectively removing iron particles, sand, rubble, and other unwanted materials.
Separation is achieved by a series of three screens - the first removing large impurities, the second separating the coffee, and the third removing fine materials like sand and dust. An air sifter is introduced for added efficiency. The machine requires minimum maintenance and its individual rubber ball cleaning mechanism ensures maximum screening area at all times. The screen inclination, throw angle, and amplitude varies depending on the input product for ideal result. The machine can be provided with a closed aspiration system, or can be connected to a central aspiration line.
Capacity of machine ranges from 800kgs/hr to 5000kgs/hr, depending on input product characteristics.

Dry Destoner with fan and cyclone


Mckinnon dry destoner are used for removing stones from Green coffee, dry parchment or dry cherry. The destoner is designed to take advance of the different in specific weights between the stones and the coffee.

The incoming coffee is fed in to on inclined sifting frame fitted with a special screen, which is exposed to a controllable air exhaust. The lighter fraction consisting of good coffee, forms a fluid layer above the sieve and flows over the outlet while the heavier stones contacting the screen are moved upslope by the frame vibration. The sieve frame is vibrated through the use of a vibratory motor. The machine has an input feed regulation device and an aspiration throat for connection to central aspiration line or to an individual aspiration line with fan, cyclone, air lock and piping. The vacuum above the sieve can be adjusted by a butterfly control valve. Depending upon the input material characteristics, the feed, aspiration intensity, screen inclination, a throw angle setting and vibration amplitude can be adjusted for optimum result.

The McKinnon dry destoners have capacities ranging from 600 Kgs per hour to 6000 Kgs per hour depending on the input product characteristics.

Africa Hullers


McKinnon Africa Hullers are specifically designed to process dry cherry. The machine consists of a cylinder fitted with feeding and hulling ribs, enclosed in a strong casing, the lower portion of which is perforated to allow the husks to pass into the husk chamber. The hulling is effected by means of the triturating action between the hulling blade and the ribs on the cylinder. The cylinder at the feed end is provided with a number of ribs set at an angle for facilitating the feed end and allowing the coffee to proceed from one end of the cylinder to the other. At the delivery end there are three angular pieces called lifters used for the purpose of lifting the coffee to the delivery spout. The shells and the dust falling in the husk chamber are then blown out by the fan fitted in the feed end frame of the machine. On larger size models the lower portion of the dust casing is hinged for cleaning purposes and to facilitate changing of the screens. The feed and delivery spouts are fitted with regulators.

Smout Peeler Polisher


McKinnon Smout Peeler Polishers are specially designed for processing of dry parchment coffee. The machines can be used for peeling and polishing or for only polishing to remove the silver skin. Since the Smout performs both peeling and polishing operations simultaneously, there is no necessity for passing the parchment through a huller prior to polishing. This saves considerable energy and also from damage to the coffee.

The Peeler Polisher is provided with an intake Hopper, Hopper Slide Gate for feed regulation, flanged and sealed ball bearings, discharge spout with control door and a counter weight, suction fan and aspiration piping and pulley suitable for Electric motor or Engine drive.

Output capacities range from 15 kgs. per hour to 2000 kgs of green coffee per hour. Models are available for hand operation and sampling purposes. When the parchment is fed at the right moisture content (Ideal moisture level between 10.5% - 11.0%) the machine produces green coffee without bean breakage and with uniform polishing.

Closed Circuit Catador


Mckinnon Dustless closed circuit catadors are used for fine separation of heavy beans from light beans. They also separate dust, shells, immature beans, stones and external matter from green coffee through suitable adjustments in operating speeds and air quantities. They are particularly suitable for removing beans which have been attacked by insects, or discoloured beans which are generally lighter than the fully matured beans.

By nature of their closed air circuit, these catadors ensure a dust free operation and help in preserving the factory environment. Catadors are used after hullers and smout peeler polishers to remove husk and light coffee. They are also used after grading for seconday catadoring of light beans and triage. The coffee is fed into an air current where separation is carried out by density differences and the light matter is carried up and exited via the lights outlet. The heavy beans fall on a wire screen and exit through the front of the machine.

The machine is equipped with an electric motor platform and a shaft extension to suit electric motor drive or can be supplied to suit a diesel engine drive.

The recommended capacity is 1000 kgs. per hour with operating speeds varying for separation of stones, separation of triage and separation of dust / chaff.

Flat deck grader


McKinnon Flat Deck Grader is a vibrating deck with screens used for grading of coffee according to their size.

We offer them in single and double deck versions based on the number of grades and capacity requirement. Vibro Grading Machines can be used for grading coffee by virtue of their size.

The inclination of the screens, stroke and the angle of throw are adjustable, resulting in perfect and uniform classification.

Large screens are provided with maximum number of holes to obtain high outputs.

Vibration of the screens is provided by means of vibratory motors mounted in the centre of the machine.

The vibrating deck is mounted on four rubber springs thus ensuring that the vibrations of the machine frame are reduced to a minimum.

The screens can easily be changed by swinging down the inlet door and sliding them out. A wide variety of round holes and slotted screens of any size are available as per requirement.

The screen cleaning is automatic by means of rubber balls thus ensuring that maximum holes are available at any time for proper grading.

A sighting glass is provided to enable continuous observation of the functioning of the machine. Outlet spouts are provided with individual partitions and hooks for bagging.

Cylindrical grader


McKinnon Cylindrical Graders grades the coffee through a combination of wire and perforated screen sections. The machine is modular in construction, and individual sections can be replaced, interchanged, or redesigned. The type of coffee and amount of each grade determine the length of each modular section. An internal spiral conveyor conveys the coffee along the cylinder in a very uniform manner. Cleaning brushes ensure maximum screening at all times. All sections are made of perforated sheets when no peaberry separation is required. The grader is configured with alternate wire and perforated sheets when peaberry separation is required. The graders are provided with input hopper with slide feed regulation device, individual outlet hoppers for each section, rails and hooks for bagging, and spouting for further transport. Cylindrical Graders are suitable for Arabica and Robusta varieties. Input capacities range from 200kgs per hour to 2000kgs per hour. Graders can be configured to give up to nine separations, and with twin or triple deck for easy repass, and movement of coffee.

Densimetric Table (Gravity Table)


The McKinnon Gravity Tables are used after hullers and peeler polishers to separate heavy and light beans. They can be used in conjunction with Closed Circuit Catadors for best results or even as an alternate to Catadors.

McKinnon Gravity Tables, when adjusted well, effectively remove all triage besides providing coffee of uniform weight. Ideally, best results can be achieved, if the coffee is graded, catadored and then passed through these Tables. The Gravity Tables can be adjusted for throw and tilt in laterally and in vertically.

A well designed fan and air distribution system, at the bottom of the machine, ensures even supply of air. The machine is equipped with an input hopper with regulating device for feed control. Where desired, a hood can be provided for dustless operation and suitable piping for connection to an aspiration system (As an add on accessory). Separate discharge spouts for broken beans, lights and heavies are provided for bagging or for further processing. Gravity Tables can be supplied with or without feed Elevators. The coffee moves on an air cushion and due to the rocking motion and tilt of the machine, the heavy particles move to one side of the machine for discharge. The light coffee and brokens move further down the screen for discharge in front of the machine. Input capacities range from 150 kgs to 3,000kgs per hour on Green Coffee input.

Sorting Tables


Mckinnon manual sorting tables are used after grading to remove blacks and unwanted beans from green coffee. They are supplied with height adjustable stools to seat the pickers comfortably. Feed hopper has a feed roller to ensure even feeding and distribution along the breadth of the belt. The belt is food grade and ensures clear colour contrast with the bean to be picked. There are small pockets for the pickers to place the removed defective beans. The speed of the belt can be varied by the garblers to give optimum results. The length and breadth of the table can be varied to suit capacities desired. Sorting tables give optimum results when used in conjunction with size graders, catadors, gravity tables and electronic colour sorters.
